Choosing medical aesthetic treatments is an important personal decision. At Dr Edward Lewsey Medical Aesthetics, I believe that open communication and thorough clinical guidance are essential for your peace of mind. Here you will find answers to the most common questions regarding clinical safety, appointment preparation, and post-treatment aftercare.

How do I know which treatment is best for me?
If you are not sure what treatment is most suitable for you, feel free to email me with any initial questions or thoughts. From there, we can arrange a face to face consultation if you want to proceed.
Will my treatment be painful?
Treatments are administered using very fine, high grade medical needles which cause minimal trauma. Everyone's pain threshold is different, but for most treatments, a brief 'discomfort' is more likely to be experienced than pain, and depends on the areas being treated. Pain following treatment is not expected.
How long will the effects of my treatment last?
Everybody is different, and will respond differently to the treatments.
Fine line treatments typically prove effective for 3-9 months. Dermal filler therapy can be effective for about a year, but there are many factors which can affect this, which we can discuss in more detail before your appointment.
Can I wear makeup to my appointment?
Yes, but I will need to cleanse the treatmemt area in order to assess you and for medical photography.
How soon after my treatment can I wash my face, apply face creams, apply makeup, etc.?
Generally, after about 12 hours, but this may depend on the treatement you are having.
Will I experience any bruising or swelling after my treatment? When will everything be healed?
Swelling and bruising is a normal reaction of the body to any procedure, and can vary greatly between individuals. It also depends on the treament you are having.
For fine line treatment the skin tends to settle within a day or two, for dermal fillers I would advise 2 weeks to allow any swelling and bruising to subside.
I don't want a trout pout or duck lips! How can I be confident about the outcome?
Neither do I! My goal is a natural outcome with a pleasing aesthetic effect. I use dermal fillers which are non-permanent and dissolvable, meaning that adjustments are possible. Treatment prices include a two-week follow up appointment where we can discuss the outcome.
Will people know I've had a treatment?
As my patient, you can be assured of medical confidentiality.
A degree of bruising and swelling can be expected after treatment, but varies between procedures and patients.
I aim to achieve a natural aesthetic, but a warning: you may experience compliments.
Are the treatments safe?
Generally, yes. Serious complications are extremly rare. We will discuss this thoroughly prior to your treatment.
Can I contact you after the treatment if I have questions or concerns?
Absolutely, please do. My details will be provided for you to contact me at any reasonable hour.
Can I have treatment on the same day as the initial consultation?
That is often possible, the main consideration is that you feel you have had the time and space to ask questions and make an informed decision. This is why I send you detailed treatment information before hand.
Can we have an online consultation prior to treatment?
Of course we can! The only requirement is a good quality camera so we can discuss what treatment will suit you best. I treat online consultations just like face-to-face, including the reservation fee.
Why is filler treatment a blanket cost?
In the UK genuine CE marked medical grade dermal fillers are sold in 1mL syringes. Practitioners must not share syringes between patients, therefore even if you only use a small amount, the whole syrnige is 'used'.
There are non-EU produced dermal fillers which are sold differently, and some clinics may utilise different treatment practices.
My practice is to use the right amount of filler for the outcome you want, whether that is 0.1mL, or a whole 1mL.
How old do I need to be for treatment?
You have to be 18 or over... of course, if you're lucky enough to be still under 18 you likely don't need my services!
