2026-7 Flu season is here!
Get your flu jabs sorted
One of the major parts of being an NHS GP is the annual scrum to arrange flu jabs. Over time this has ballooned to include RSV, Pneumococcal, and now Covid.
The eligibility criteria change yearly, and this year is no different! There are many complexities behind the decisions on whether certain groups can have them or not, and this causes the usual annual confusion and frustrations, as people who maybe had them in the past can't this year and vice-versa.
For more information on whether your are eligible, check the NHS website or your local GP likely has information on their website.
I often hear people say that they are put-off the flu jab because they had it once and then they caught the flu! This isn't quite right.
The influenza vaccine only protects you against a particular strain of flu. This means you are still able to catch other strains that may be floating around. So what is the point I hear you ask; well the NHS looks at the global outbreaks and tries to predict which strain is looking to be the worst/more dangerous and it is this strain that that try to protect you against. The jab can also cause a flu-like reaction, but this is typically not full-blown flu! Your GP can provide you more information about this.

The importance of doctors in aesthetic treatments
Choosing a medically trained practitioner ensures your treatment plan is not only designed around your unique anatomy, and aesthetic goals, but a good practitioner will take into account your wider health history, and long-term well-being.
Did you know that most non-medical aesthetics practitioners do not prescribe? This means that they aren't the ones actually deciding you should undergo treatment or not, and they have to ask a prescribing doctor to actually source the medication for you and do the prescription.
